Patrick Wyse Jackson has recently been elected the President-Elect of the International Bryozoology Association.  This body, which is made up of biologists and palaeontologists researching living and fossil bryozoans, was established in Stockholm in 1965.  A major international conference takes place every three years and more local European and Australasian conferences are held annually.  The 12th international conference was hosted by Trinity College, Dublin in 2001.

Patrick’s main research interests are in the taxonomy and functional biology of Palaeozoic bryozoans, the history of research on bryozoans, and on the distribution of modern species inhabiting Irish waters.

Patrick will take up his duties at the end of the IBA conference in Sicily in 2013 and will preside over the IBA conference in Melbourne in 2016.
