Project Description:

The LEANES project is an Erasmus Mundus project funded by the EU and led by Trinity College Dublin in partnership with the Netherlands Research School for Socio-Economic and Natural Sciences of the Environment (SENSE) and the University of Joensuu, Finland. It aims to improve accessibility and enhance the profile of the European Higher Education Area in order to facilitate and promote study opportunities in Europe for third country students.

The project will focus on Asian Higher education courses in Environmental Science and establish a network of European and third country universities and agencies with interests in tropical biodiversity, climate change and sustainable development. The project will also develop a best-practice model for the assessment of credits for postgraduate training across Europe and Asia and facilitate greater collaboration amongst higher education institutions and academics in India and China and the European Union.

This two year project will produce a number of resources including:

  • Computer-based tools to assist in the delivery of multimedia educational products and resources, including online education modules in Biodiversity and Climate Change;
  • An online portal and information pack on European postgraduate opportunities in the field of environmental science which will facilitate access for Asian and other third country students;
  • Co-ordinate workshops in Asia to facilitate greater collaboration between academics and researchers in Asia and Europe,  particularly those with expertise in biodiversity and climate change,
  • Development of a best-practice model for evaluating qualifications from specific Asian countries.
